I own two different makes of reels which I find pair up ideally with the Rockfish range of rods.
The HTO Rockfish 2000 fixed spool reel is my first choice for using with the Rockfish 1g-7g UL rod. It’s a super smooth lightweight reel with a graphite body, five ball bearings and one roller bearing, making it ideal for fishing in both fresh and saltwater.
It has a stainless steel main shaft, a dual propulsion anti-twist line roller and an aluminium power handle, which finishes the looks of this reel off nicely.
The one thing with this reel that I find to be very beneficial is that is comes with a shallow spool, which is something that a lot of other small reels don’t possess. This means that there’s no need to put any backing onto the spool pre-line loading, you can simply spool up with a 0.08mm braid and it fills the spool nicely.

The other reels that I use are the Hart Zemtax in 800 and 2000 sizes. These reels are made from ultra lightweight graphite and have been specially designed for spinning.
The internal gearing is made from a cold-forged aluminium which gives it high durability and micro module crown and pinion giving increased gearing smoothness and efficiency. The super reinforced main shaft also avoids twists during combat and it has six high quality bearings, five of which are stainless balls and one is an continuous infinite anti-reverse bearing.
These reels also look good, with the blue touches really standing out against the main black body. For those of you that are technically minded, the drag force of the 800 model is 10 kg whereas the 2000 size model has a drag force of 12 kg.
